One way a person may be able to save on a used tractor is through buying it at an auction, a practice that has gone on for 13 years at Iowa's Geiger auction.
According to news cooperative Vinton Today, Jeff Geiger has run the auction for that time, where things like antique farm equipment and other implements have been sold. Geiger holds the auction twice a year, in the spring and fall.
"We usually have something unique each time," Geiger told the news organization. "A good auction catches everything."
This year, as in the past, hundreds of people came from surrounding states to take part in the auction. Geiger got into the business after a previous auctioneer stepped down.
Although auctions don't happen every day, there are options for consumers who are looking for good deals on used tractors and farm equipment. For example, some people may try to search online since the market has grown to include websites that specialize in these items.
The advantage of shopping online is that it gives consumers a wider base from which to choose. However, people should make sure they are dealing with reputable dealers when shopping for anything online, including used farm equipment.
