The New York State Turfgrass Association (NYSTA) has announced its 2009 Turfgrass Advocacy Day is scheduled for March 11th.
The event will allow those in the industry to learn about legislation and meet with lawmakers to discuss the issues of turfgrass in the state.
In addition to allowing participants to enjoy a luncheon with state senator David J. Valesky, the event will also focus on a number of issues involving the turfgrass industry including legislation around the issues of pesticides and fertilizer.
A recent study by the Department of Agricultural and Consumer Economics, University of Illinois predicts that fertilizer prices in the U.S. will continue to fall in 2009 which should be beneficial to those in the turfgrass industry.
However, Dave Heegard, vice president and general manager of LebanonTurf recently said he believes demand for the product in the next month as the turfgrass industry begins to prepare for warmer months will drive up the price of fertilizer.
