When employing a new or used tractor, there are things homeowners should consider, especially as dry weather could lead to wildfires.
According to the Southwest Riverside News Network, fire officials in the Cal Fire and Riverside County emergency services are urging people take care as Memorial Day is on the horizon. Those who plan on doing some yard work in California during the extended weekend should make sure they have used tractors appropriately.
For example, officials said mowers should be used for lawns, not on dry vegetation. Rather, weed trimmers would be better-suited for that type of job.
Yard work that involves used tractors or other powered equipment should be done before 10 a.m., as areas are generally more moist during that time.
"It is so important that people understand the dangers the outdoors pose," fire chief John R. Hawkins told the California news site.
Along with mowing at the proper time and in the appropriate way, consumers should take care they protect themselves when doing yard work. That may include wearing steel-toed boots or safety goggles.
