John Deere recently announced reaching a major manufacturing milestone with the completion of the one millionth tractor built at the John Deere Augusta factory in Grovetown, Georgia.
The millionth unit built in the Augusta factory, a 5100M model, was displayed at a commemorative ceremony at the local fairgrounds.
Mary Pat Tubb, the factory manager at John Deere Augusta, said, “Producing one million tractors is a significant milestone for John Deere and for the whole Augusta team. We are proud of the legacy we've built as a company, and of the goal we've had here in Augusta since we started: To design and build tractors for our customers that deliver the quality and value they've come to expect from John Deere."
The John Deere Augusta factory produced its first unit, a 55 Series Compact Utility Tractor, in 1990. The factory currently produces 27 models of compact utility tractors and utility tractors that are distributed throughout North America, and exported to more than 40 other countries around the world.
Mary Pat Tubb explained that, since the factory first opened, John Deere has dramatically increased the productivity of utility and compact utility tractors. She says that full-time farmers, contractors and homeowners now have the ability to get more done in less time.
The factory builds the 1 Family, 2 Family, 3 Family, and 4 Family Compact Utility Tractors, which are popularly used by homeowners, small farmers, landscape contractors and commercial users. The 5 Family Utility Tractors, also built at John Deere – Augusta, are popular with farmers, vineyards, construction companies, commercial mowers, and golf courses.
The facility has come along way from its start, now occupying more than 400,000 square feet across 175 acres, and employing about 470 employees to support the design, production, and distribution of John Deere tractors.
