Lawn-care professionals have always used tractors and other implements when plying their craft.
However, recent years have seen a rise in the use of organically produced fertilizers, a fact that is being recognized by the state of New York. The Department of Environmental Conservation is launching an initiative to help homeowners identify lawn care experts that use organic processes.
"Demand for all types of organic services is on the rise as people continue to be concerned about the amounts and types of chemicals used in everyday tasks," DEC Commissioner Pete Grannis said. "At the same time, consumers are sometimes unsure what 'green' means."
Through the BE Green Organic Yard NY, certified lawn care providers will get to use a special logo that will indicate to consumers that they don't use fertilizers with certain types of chemicals. Other practices include the types of plants they pick to put in a yard, which can reduce the number of pests.
While some consumers can afford to have other people do yard work for them, others may have to rely on their own used tractor when clipping grass. However, controlling the amount they water their lawn is a step they can take to help the environment.
