Coley Bailey Sr., opened the door of the tractor driver by his son, Coley Jr. and over the sound of the radio inside and the machinery outside announced "We’re processing 1,100 pounds of seed cotton a minute," according to Delta Farm Press.
Although this may not seem like an earth-shattering observation, this testament to the efficiency of the father and son's farming operation was enough to win the coveted Farm Press/Cotton Foundation High Cotton Award for the Mid-South states, the news outlet reported.
The father and son team used a pair of 12-row John Deere no-till planters to accomplish their task, and the Baileys noted that they owe some of their efficiency to the technology inside of the farm equipment.
"The RTK puts us right where we’re supposed to be," Coley Jr. told the Farm Press. "My planter drivers like it a whole lot better."
The Farm Press/Cotton Foundation High Cotton Award is an honor that is bestowed upon farmers in the Mid-South region, and celebrates both efficiency and innovation in the field of farming, according to the award's website.
