Authorities have charged a man in connection with the theft of $78,000 worth of farm equipment from a White Creek, New York business.

Herbert Headwell, 48, faces two felony charges for the alleged theft of a large tractor and a windrower combine from an equipment company, according to a report from PostStar.com.

The website reported that Headwell had previously owned the farm equipment, but it had been repossessed and sold at auction.

Police suspected Headwell in the theft due to his prior ownership and the two pieces of equipment were found on property he owns.

Officials said witnesses at the equipment company reported an unusual run-in with Headwell in the days before the equipment was stolen.

According to the news source, Headwell went to the business, gave his name as Peter Parker - the alter-ego of the comic hero Spider-Man - and dropped his pants to reveal a blue-and-red leotard before leaving.

The National Insurance Crime Bureau reports that heavy equipment theft is on the rise across North America. NICB recommends maintaining a log listing all equipment serial or product identification numbers in a central location.
