John Deere was a recently presented with “The Award for Innovation,” sponsored by Farm Business, for the company’s highly commended HarvestLab Sensor that helps farmers increase productivity while lowering costs.
The Award for Innovation was granted at the 2014 Farm Business Cream awards, which recognized the best innovations and successes in the dairy industry.
According to FarmingUK, Caroline Whibley, the event organizer, said, “The Cream Awards have really built on their position as the benchmark Dairy Industry Awards. For this, the second year of the awards, the entries were once again fantastic and the winning line-up is hugely impressive.”
John Deere’s HarvestLab Sensor is available for the 7080 and 8000 Series self-propelled forage harvesters and provides a way to measure a full range of crop components in a quick and accurate manner. This system is designed to measure organic material on the go, in the cab, or with a portable stationary unit.
The sensing system gives farmers the ability to determine the content of several quality parameters simultaneously in various crops and organic materials. For example, when measuring the content of corn silage, John Deere’s HarvestLab Sensor would provide an analysis of the moisture or dry matter, protein, starch, NDF/ADF or fiber, volatile far acid and ASH in the crop. With this, farmers can make educated adjustments on a daily basis, while improving nutrition and reducing feed.
With this solution, there is no need for in-field calibrations and farmers are able to see immediate results. Awarded for the innovation of the HarvestLab Sensor, John Deere has helped farmers to reduce the cost of feed by maximizing nutrient potential.
