For the fourth consecutive year, it has been announced that John Deere will receive an Innovation Award from the Consumer Technology Association (CTA). This year, John Deere is a CES 2023 Innovation Awards Best of Innovation Honoree in the Robotics category and Vehicle Tech and Advanced Mobility category for its fully autonomous tractor.
“Farmers never have a shortage of work to do on any given day,” said Jahmy Hindman, chief technology officer for John Deere. “With our fully autonomous tractor, farmers have the flexibility to focus on the most pressing tasks within their operation while the machine handles what they don’t have time or labor to do. We continue to invest in autonomy and automation to support the important work our customers do every day.”
The fully autonomous tractor has 360-degree cameras, artificial intelligence (AI), sensors, and GPU processors that operate at an ultra-fast speed to move through fields without requiring an operator. The AI is designed to sort through images to determine where the machine should work at any given time. Agricultural producers can configure how the tractor will autonomously operate directly from their smart device. After it has scanned for obstacles and received the “all clear,” the tractor begins its assignment.
The nomination announcement comes ahead of CES 2023, which will be taking place between Jan. 5 and Jan. 8 in Las Vegas, Nevada. John Deere is also delivering a keynote at the event, which is one of the most influential in the technology industry.
The Robotics category in particular is geared toward highlighting programmable, intelligent machines that can perform autonomous tasks or replicate human interactions. The Vehicle Intelligence and Advanced Mobility category sheds light on automotive and transportation products and services — specifically, those that integrate technology into the driving or riding experience.
