John Deere announced on August 4 that it would be helping with the removal of more than one million pounds of garbage from the Ohio River by the end of 2015. This task, which will be will executed by Chad Pregracke and Living Lands & Waters, is set to be completed with help from the new John Deere 210G Excavator. John Deere is a long-time supporter of Pregracke and the organization.
Earlier this year, the John Deere Construction & Forestry Division partnered with Pierce Pacific Manufacturing and Erb Equpment Company to create an excavator for Pregracke’s heavy-duty clean-up task. The new machine was debuted at the Inland Marine Expo in St. Louis, Mo., on June 17.
"In terms of the volume of garbage in the rivers, the Ohio River is one of the worst in the country," said Pregracke. "It really needs a full-court press for any change to happen."
If volunteers were to remove 55 gallons of mud from the Ohio River, the task would take approximately 30 minutes. With the John Deere 210G LC Excavator, the job would take seconds to complete. "It's really going to increase the volume and safety of our work," said Pregracke.
John Deere initially announced that it would be adding the 210G LC Excavator to its G-Series lineup back in May. The machine has a Final 4 Tier engine to meet today’s emissions standards.
