According to an Indiana governmental press release, Governor Mike Pence, Lieutenant Governor Sue Ellspermann and nearly 350 agriculture leaders from throughout Indiana and the nation gathered for the Inaugural Governor’s Agriculture Conference in an effort to advance the state’s reputation as a world agriculture leader.
The event’s attendees heard from a series of internationally recognized speakers on essential topics including agribusiness development, conservation, stewardship, sustainability, feeding an increasing population, and Indiana’s growing role in addressing these critical topics.
The event primarily focused on the importance of global innovation, allowing attendees to hear stimulating ideas from prominent speakers. However, it also provided Indiana’s Governor and Lt. Governor with a platform to share their ideas about elevating Indiana’s agriculture industry.
Governor Pence stated in the release, “I could not be more proud of the exceptional skills, resilience and ingenuity of the men and women who continue to move Indiana agriculture forward. By combining old-fashioned hard work and common sense with next-generation innovation and technology, Indiana farm families and agribusinesses are strengthening our rural communities here at home... and contributing significantly to feeding, fueling and clothing the world.”
As seen in a previous news story, agriculture is a critical component of Indiana’s economy, supporting hundreds of thousands of jobs. The state’ past growth and expected future expansion has largely been cause by increased domestic and worldwide demand for agriculture products and byproducts, according to the source.
As Indiana continues to be a large player in the world’s agriculture industry, the Governor’s Agriculture Conference is being used as a platform to elevate its reputation to new heights.
