The Marion, South Carolina police department arrested a local man who is suspected of stealing more than $100,000 in heavy equipment, according to South Carolina Now.
Phillip Barry McDaniels, a 57-year-old South Carolina resident, turned himself in after he was wanted for receiving stolen goods and possessing a stolen vehicle that was valued at more than $5,000, reported the news source.
Several pieces of large construction equipment were taken from Orangeburg and Lexington counties including a John Deere mini-excavator, two John Deere tractors and two large trailers, according to South Carolina Now.
The equipment was returned to the proper owners, McDaniels was taken into custody at the Marion County Detention Center and the two officers who solved the case were given an award from the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NCIB), reported the news source.
Awards are given out by the NCIB for crimes that are solved and arrests that are made in which stolen property is returned to the rightful owners without damage to the specific item, according to the organization's website.
